What the job entails

As Mechanical Design Engineer, you will join the R&D team and contribute to both new product development and the continuous improvement of existing designs. The role covers the full design process, from concept development and detailed design through to calculations, validation and product support.

You will work closely with manufacturing, purchasing and external suppliers to deliver practical, well-documented components and assemblies that are ready for manufacture and service. You will also support legacy products, engineering change activity and selected project work, while helping to improve engineering processes and validation methods. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants to be involved in all aspects of design, not just CAD, and who enjoys solving technical challenges collaboratively across the business.

Key requirements / What we look for

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Positive engineer, willing to learn and take on a variety of tasks
• Around 1-2 year’s mechanical design experience (Sandwich year or practical work experience)
• Strong understanding of mechanisms, stress distribution and engineering calculations
• Experience specifying drives
• Proficient in at least one CAD package: NX, Catia or ProE, plus Volt
• Practical, self-motivated and a confident problem solver
